Speech and Language Assessment

Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Assessments

At The Thrive Clinic, we provide comprehensive Speech and Language Therapy assessments for children and adolescents. Communication plays an essential role in learning, social relationships and emotional wellbeing. Our Speech and Language Therapy assessments help to understand your child’s communication strengths and areas of difficulty, and provide clear recommendations to support them at home and in school.

What is a Speech and Language Therapy Assessment?

A Speech and Language Therapy assessment is carried out by a qualified Speech and Language Therapist and provides a detailed evaluation of your child’s speech, language and communication skills.

The assessment may include:

• A detailed parent interview
• Standardised assessment tools
• Observation of your child’s communication and interaction
• Assessment of understanding of language
• Assessment of expressive language
• Assessment of speech clarity
• Evaluation of social communication skills

This allows us to develop a clear profile of your child’s communication.

Who is this assessment for?

A Speech and Language Therapy assessment may be helpful if your child or young person:

• Has difficulty expressing themselves
• Has difficulty understanding language or instructions
• Has unclear speech
• Is a late talker
• Experiences social communication differences
• Is attending for an autism assessment
• Requires a report to support school supports or accommodations

We assess toddlers, children and adolescents.

What happens after the assessment?

Following the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive written report. This report includes:

• A summary of the assessment findings
• A description of your child’s communication profile
• Recommendations for home and school
• Recommendations regarding therapy, where appropriate

We will explain the findings clearly and answer any questions you may have.
