The starting point for all Occupational Therapy support is a comprehensive standardised assessment of your child’s skills. This allows the Occupational Therapist to develop a clear understanding of your child’s strengths, differences and areas where support may be helpful.
An Occupational Therapy assessment, with a detailed written report, provides practical recommendations for both home and school to support your child to reach their potential.
This may include strategies to support daily routines, such as using checklists to help your child get ready for school independently. It may also include recommendations for the school environment, such as sensory or movement breaks to help your child maintain an optimal level of regulation for learning. In some cases, assistive technology such as access to a laptop may be recommended where handwriting is significantly impacting your child’s ability to participate in school.
